Youth in Harmony (YIH) is a program to expose our youth to acappella four part harmony called barbershop music. Many high school music departments are being cut in budgets and are unable to keep up with different styles of music. Barbershop music is only one of two original types of music native to America, jazz being the other. This music is a style where the melody is sung in the second tenor called the Lead. This is mainly because he is leading the group. Everyone else is in harmony to him. The Bass will supply the bottom of the quartet. What makes this style of music unique to acappella music is a harmony part above the lead called the Tenor. These three parts are the parts that most people can hear and pick out. They paint the picture. The Baritone is the part that is in harmony to the Lead at all times and will fill in the chord so we are able to hear the seventh of a chord. The baritone will sometimes sing above the lead and sometimes below the lead. This person must be able to hear the chord and adjust the pitch just a little so the chord will have a rich, full flavor.

The Photo Gallary is composed of a few pictures from the last 3 years of the Hastings YIH Festivals. The Guest Clinician is designed to expose our guest clinician to the area with a bio, picture, and year that he was in Hastings for the YIH Festival. Our Guest Quartet is a bio page on the group that has helped us teach the music to the student over the past 3 years. The Student Information is what is expected of the students, what they will need to do to register and a registration section to be emailed directly to our registrar.
